The game “Sekai Hero” is an online role-playing game (RPG) having Augmented Reality (AR) vision through the “Sekai Camera” application. In the game, users -or heroes- knock down devils and monsters that pop up in the real world. Users can link with other users to fight against common enemies, aided by location information. Creating various characters by choosing multiple classes and avatars is also a part of the game.

In Sekai Hero, location data is the key to monsters and treasures. Find rare items and fight enemies while adventuring in the real world. Make your real trips and commuting to work a valuable journey by converting them to in-game coins. Interact with other Heros using Twitter, collaborate with them on adventures.

TOKYO (December 21st, 2009) – Tonchidot Corporation today announced the global availability of the iPhone application “Sekai Camera,” a social, Augmented Reality (AR) service for browsing and sharing user-generated text, photo, voice, and other location-linked information. Launched September 2009 in Japan, Sekai Camera was recently named the Best App in 2009 by Apple Japan. Sekai Camera is now available for free outside Japan at iPhone’s AppStore worldwide (search for “Sekai Camera”).

The Sekai Camera application features AR and location-based services that allow users to interact with and communicate in the real world in ways that they have never been able to do before. While most mobile AR applications today are navigation oriented, Sekai Camera is social by design, giving users the ability to communicate and have fun through interaction with digital tags that float in the real world. Air Tag: Create and browse futuristic location-linked digital Post-its® that float in real space. See and share in real time, text, photo, voice, and web-links that are posted as Air Tags. Leave your footprint in the real world!

Air Filter: Search for the Air Tags that you are looking for. By specifying time, distance and type, you can sort through the many floating Air Tags around any given location.

Air Pocket: Bookmark your favorite Air Tags and put them in your “pocket”. View and comment on Air Tags even when you are not at the location where the Air Tags were originally posted.

2. Communicate : a New Serendipity Experience

Sekai Life: Create a life-stream that shows how you and your friends have interacted with Sekai Camera in a timeline display. Follow other users and view their comments and actions.

Air Profile: Register and display your own profile as a personalized Air Tag. This virtual name-tag floats right above your iPhone for others to see – look up!

Air Tweet: See your Tweets as floating Air Tags, which are enabled through a mash-up with Twitter®.

Air Shout: Send and receive Air Tag messages that fly up to a distance of 100 meters.

The Sekai Camera, which is an AR application developed for the iPhone, has been adopted by Loewe Japan KK as a navigation and communication tool for customers visiting the Loewe boutique located in Omotesando, one of Tokyo’s most fashionable districts.  The Sekai Camera service at the boutique will continue from September 18th to October 12th.

During the service period, the Loewe boutique will prepare several iPhone 3GS handsets installed with Sekai Camera.  Visiting customers will be able to use the handsets to discover information about Loewe’s history and products that cannot be seen by the naked eye, through icons called “AirTags” floating in and around the boutique.  By utilizing Sekai Camera, Loewe is able to add a new dimension of information and fun to help consumers discover the charm of the products and the brand.

The informational AirTag contents provided at the location include the 160+ year history of Loewe and its products, and are aimed to communicate to customers the stories behind the brand.  These contents encourage customers to visit, spend more time, and engage with the products for a new and deeper brand experience.  We believe Sekai Camera adds a new dimension to brand communication.

Sekai Camera’s first experiment was conducted in February 2009 at a fashion event in Tokyo.
